Walking in Scotland while camping with Thistle

von Judith Sleigh

Walking in Scotland is wonderful – you have the choice of walks through the forests or the glens, alongside the rivers, or in the mountains. All the Thistle Holiday Parks have a choice of walks nearby; get up in the morning and the walks are on your doorstep! Whether you arrive by motorhome, caravan or tent, you have got plenty of choices for easy and moderate walks as well as short or challenging day walks on parts of long-distance trails. Here are a few suggestions:

Mortonhall Caravan Park:  On the outskirts of Edinburgh, minutes from the Pentland Hills, with trails which are signposted and those where you find your own way; spend the day here, walking through the moorland and alongside farms.

Blairgowrie Caravan Park in Perthshire has circular walks through the woods and along the River Ericht, with more walks further afield.

Five Roads Caravan Park and Nethercraig Caravan Park are both excellent bases for the Cateran Trail (a cateran was a cattle rustler) which winds its way through the Angus Glens – Glen Isla, Glen Clova, Glen Prosen and Glen Lethnot.

Loch Lomond Caravan Park and Lomond Woods Caravan Park are both right by Loch Lomond. Woodlands and moorlands to explore in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.

Trossachs Caravan Park in the Trossachs (the “Bristly Place”), with walks through the forests and along the shores of Loch Katrine.

Blair Castle Caravan Park north of Pitlochry. The Park is on a large estate, with waymarked trails, and you can also explore the area Highland Perthshire on foot and by bicycle.

Finally, in the North West Highlands is Badrallach Camping Site, on Little Loch Broom.  Plenty of hill and mountain walks here, including this one to the spectacular Ardlessie Falls.
